Experiential Futures with Roger Dennis

Experiential Futures for Strategy and Innovation with Roger Dennis:

This learning intensive will strengthen your approach to strategy and innovation by incorporating experiential futures into your professional toolkit. Drawing on the wildly successful ‘showcase engagement workshops’ which drew international attention and connected thousands of people to the Canterbury Health System’s vision and purpose, Roger will share how successive leaders of the Canterbury’s District Health Board embraced futures and foresight to transform a ‘broken system’ to a world-leading one.

There is an appealing simplicity about what the Canterbury health service has done. The starting place was talking with the staff. Mock-ups of healthcare settings were built in a warehouse and groups of staff walked through them to stimulate thinking on solutions for the many challenges they faced in an under-performing system. It was supposed to last a fortnight and involve about 400 people; it eventually ran for six weeks and more than 2,000 people turned up.

------------------

What You Can Expect:

🔍 Mythbusting Traditional Strategy - Debunking common misconceptions about traditional strategic planning and introducing experiential futures.

🌐 Global Learnings and Local Applications - Insights from Roger’s extensive global experience and application to local contexts.

💼 Integration into Your Work - Tips on how to integrate experiential futures into your leadership, governance, and organisational strategies.

Throughout the session, there will be ample opportunities to reflect, engage with Roger on his extensive global experience, and collaborate with your peers to share ideas and solutions.

Outcomes: You will leave the session equipped with practical tools and strategies for incorporating experiential futures into your strategic planning processes, along with a deeper understanding of the benefits and challenges of modernising communication and innovation practices.

Who This Is For: 👤 This learning experience is designed for professionals and leaders at the beginning of their journey into strategic foresight and innovation. Participants may have extensive experience in other fields but might not have been exposed to experiential futures and interactive communication methodologies.

The Future of Food with Dr. Quinault Childs, IFTF

The Future of Food

Speculative Futures Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland is thrilled to host Quinault Childs, Research Director of the Food Futures Lab at the Institute for the Future (IFTF) in Palo Alto, California. He focuses on exploring the intersection of food systems, society, and climate change, describing possible futures where all of those things look very different than they do today.

His work with the Food Futures Lab is a mix of projecting current-day data into the future, gathering insights from food systems leaders, and developing experiential, imaginative “edible futures” of food. Before IFTF, Quin was involved in launching startups in the food space, including a circular food waste company and the first zero-waste grocery store in Texas. He has a M.S. in Agriculture, Food, and Environmental Studies and a B.S. in Human Factors Engineering, both from Tufts University in Massachusetts.

Date: Mon Feb 26, 2024

Time: 17:30:00 GMT+1300 (New Zealand Daylight Time)

Location: 2degrees Head Office, Fanshawe Street, Auckland CBD, Auckland, New Zealand

This session will be a chance to see some of IFTF's Artifacts From the Future of Food - visual imaginations of how products and environments could be change - as well as hear from Quinault about some of IFTF's latest research on the future of food systems.

Throughout the presentation, we'll run a forecasting exercise designed by Jane McGonigal, IFTF's director of games research, called 100 ways the future could be different. This deceptively simple, fun, and generative process is a great way to quickly develop a diverse set of unexpected future possibilities among a group.

Mark your calendar and join us at The Future of Food on Mon Feb 26, 2024 at 2degrees Head Office, Auckland. See you there!

Future of Auckland | Deloitte Workshop

“If you can't imagine a better future its extremely hard to make things better.

Imagination and hope are a very important part of making change and underpin so much of the work of hashtag#civilservants

Last month at hashtag#deloittenz I ran a lab of awesome specialists and experts from across our business to shape our role in the hashtag#futureofauckland supporting Public and Private sector organisations to help make Tamaki Makarau Auckland a more prosperous, liveable, safe and world class city.

The session moved us from imagining a better future through to practical today steps to support our cities leaders to create it.

We were so lucky to have my friends and futures experts Jade Tang-Taylor and Victoria Mulligan from Speculative Futures Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland come in to support us through the first part of the day using The Human Layers immersive experience by Hannah Smith and Ella Saltmarshe to kick things off and spending some time imagining future scenarios and how we might support the leaders in our city to achieve a better Auckland.

What would your scenarios look like (see one of our prompts below). Have a go with the Human Layers and let me know how it feels (its a good meditation) Id love to hear about it. What ways do you help your teams get in the zone to support others for change?” - Kate Sutton LinkedIn Post
